The Syrah grapes within these bottles are from the Joseph Phelps and Tablas Creek Syrah grape clones, planted in the "Les Gosses" Vineyard, in Red Mountain AVA, Washington State. Translated from French "Les Gosses" means "bratty kids". We imagine that the wildness of this plot, and the taming of the Syrah grape vines upon it, is what led Annie-Marie Liégeois, co-founder of Hedges Family Estate, to name this wine. Or perhaps it was while her children Christophe and Sarah were growing up on the estate. Whatever the reason, this is a simply stunning Red Mountain Syrah. It has a rugged elegance to it and smelling and tasting this wine reminds you of the Red Mountain desert landscape... slightly savage, yet beautiful.

Tasting Notes

Classic characters of red tart fruits, blueberry pancakes, black pepper, fresh ground cumin seed, and hint of vanilla, dark cocoa powder and chilli powder. The entry is tart with a lot of fruit and spice flavours. There is a slight aggression on the mid-palate which leads to a smooth and creamy finish.

Food pairing

Syrah loves the flame-grilled barbecue. Try it with grilled burgers, rib recipes, or even grilled eggplant or portobello mushrooms. It also likes roast duck, grilled sausages, and beef casserole. If you crave red wines with fish, try Syrah with grilled tuna or salmon.
