Smooth and easy summer drinking - this is a beautiful, fresh Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, and everything you'd hope for at this price point.
Aromas of passion fruit, pink grapefruit and citrus rind supported by layers of lime blossom, elderflower and lemongrass. The palate shows ripe stone fruits with citrus, creamy complexity from the lees contact in barrel – leading to bright and vibrant acidity which provides a pure, fresh finish.
Such an easy wine to drink, this pairs well with anything light or herbily, such as chicken, pork, fish, shellfish, asparagus, salad, veal, cheese and vegetarian cuisine.
About the vineyard:
Paul Tutton has a special place in out heart, as the founder of Waterloo Wines, the precursor to our partners at Lant Street Wine, as well as head of this family-run vineyard in North Canterbury, New Zealand.
The family bought Waipara West in 1989 knowing that, although it was an unsuccessful rabbit infested sheep farm, it had a combination of factors suitable for the production of quality grapes. The vines they planted then are now producing the most incredible vintages, year after year.
Sustainability credentials: Making good progress (1*)
Practicing organic viticulture for over a decade, Waipara West has finally undergone certification - although this will only apply from 2021 vintages. It is certified as sustainable by Sustainable Winemaking New Zealand. And if you're worried about shipping miles - don't: sea freight is very efficient, and Collectivino offset the carbon impact of the 6 week voyage to the UK.
