This excellent USA Washington State wine comprises grapes from the prestigious Red Mountain AVA terroir. Wines from this region have their own distinct character and the use of neutral aged barrels by winemaker Sarah allows the fruit to express itself beautifully. Collectivino is the first to import this wonderful wine to the UK. Christophe Hedges calls this wine of grapes indigenous to Portugal "a taste of things to come", as the estate experiments with different varietals better suited to the warming climate.
Tasting Notes
This wine has rich aromas of chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, clove, and a hint of floral perfume and pepper- mint. There is some wild cherry and rustic earth with a touch of “salty” almost beachy mineral character. This wine is big and full with a pleasantly rustic finish that screams to be paired with food.
Food pairing
As a grape indigenous to Portugal, Touriga Nacional works best with dishes bold enough to stand up to its fruit and muscle. Portuguese cuisine is seafood-heavy, but Touriga Nacional works well with francesinha (a smoked meat sandwich), tripas de moda do porto (tripe stew), and even grilled octopus. Alternatively, think grilled meats, barbecue, or even earthy winter stews.
