Peter Franus Cabernet Sauvignon is an exceptional small-batch wine from the Napa Valley of California, USA. It comes with the price tag of a fine Napa wine, but this organic gem will not disappoint.
Deep ruby in colour, with harmonious aromas of sweet vanilla, cassis, dried herb, spices, and florals. Full-bodied on the palate with red cherries and plums, and a touch of black pepper and espresso. Rich, ripe, and silky smooth tannins with a beautifully lingering finish.
This big red pairs well with big flavours. Steak, a good burger, beef short ribs and other braised beef dishes. Slow-braised beef - or venison - can be great too especially when cooked in red wine. Roast or grilled lamb. Portabello mushrooms. And, naturally, cheese.
About the Winemaker
Peter Franus is a respected Napa Valley winemaker and an insider secret in the wine industry. For 30 years, he’s bonded with the mountain and hillside vineyards of the region, and particularly Mount Veeder on the southwestern flank of the Valley. He has made friends and found avid supporters who connect to his disarming wit and earnest approach to winemaking and to life, he has spent decades choosing the best vineyards, and he has produced small batches of highly praised, soulful and, most of all, delicious wine.
In his own words: "From the day we made our first wine in 1987, our goal has always been the same – to produce delicious and reasonably priced wines that distinguish themselves with their unique character, richness, harmony and the genuine sense of the mountain and hillside vineyards they came from."
Peter Franus’ winemaking philosophy is simple: great wines come from great vineyards. With over 30 plus of experience in Napa Valley, Peter Franus relies on his own intuition and experience, while taking a minimalist approach to the winemaking process. The result: each of his wines hosts its own unique personality and character.
Sustainability Rating - 1* (Up and coming)
Certified Organic since 2013. Vegan. The parcels producing the grapes for this beautiful wine are all certified organic, having been run as organic vineyards before Peter took them over.
Peter says: “I have great respect for tradition, and I rely mostly on intuition and, of course, taste, to guide my decisions. I try to intervene as little as possible in a wine’s evolution, and I do know that if you hover over a wine, you make the wine nervous.”
