Loxwood Festival Honey Wine MV

West Sussex, England

Honey | 11% ABV

£19.50

We are proud to present Loxwood Meadworks' Festival Honey Wine. This is a signature small-batch blend of mead made with honey from bees in West Sussex and fermented in the Surrey Hills. Ingredients: honey, water and yeast. Loxwood Meadworks is a family-run business led by our friends Danny and Emily. This is a wonderfully unique wine to serve as a fresh and delicately sweet aperitif and a variety.

Guide to icons

Golden in colour, this really is the amber nectar. Surprisingly refreshing with a light honey flavour and smooth finish. Loxwood uses 100% honey in the ferment so it has a natural, delicate sweetness. Notes of honey, beeswax, fresh almond, marzipan and chamomile with just a splash of sweetness, and flavours of honeyed-citrus, orchard fruits with an uplifting acidity.

Service: Serve Chilled.

Food Pairing: Perfect as a fresh, delicately sweet aperitif. It also pairs beautifully with rich and buttery chicken, fish or vegetarian dishes or, a cheese and charcuterie board. Enjoy pure mead any time you would enjoy a glass of wine. It’s great to share with friends for any occasion – from a warm summer’s day to a cosy night in with a cheeseboard.

Oliver

A 28-acre woodland and meadow filled with wildflowers, where we care for our bee colonies. Typically, mead is associated with all things medieval. Founder Danny was selling mead for The Loxwood Joust (an annual medieval festival he runs in West Sussex). Seeing how much people loved it, he thought "Why does no one drink mead anymore? Surely we can bring it back, but in a modern way"...

So, Danny ventured out to find a team to ignite his vision. Together, they embark on a mission to re-imagine how mead can look, taste, and live in a modern world. Starting from scratch, they experimented, tasted, designed (and tasted some more) until they created the signature Pure Mead you see today.

Launching a new product into the world, the team have thought from day 1 about its effect on the planet. They are committed to conscious production, a focus on minimising their carbon footprint, and most importantly, protecting their most important workers – the bees.

Cellaring: Drinking well now.

Vinification: Just like wine is made from grapes, mead is made from honey. Unlike other meads, Loxwood's Pure Mead is created using 100% honey in the ferment. (The process that makes the alcohol). It's fermented dry, and then back-sweetened with honey (dosage), to give the most natural flavour and a delicate sweetness. In their own words: "We let the bees guide our beekeeping in order to extract our key ingredient; we only ever take surplus honey. Much like vines, honey is weather dependent. We harvest honey from our bees 2-3 times per year. In the winery, we ferment in stainless steel tanks to create a light body. We then add honey to the base ferment to increase the residual sugar whilst keeping our signature fresh, light style (dosage). To finish we add tartaric acid for an uplifting zest; making this wine great for pairing. Following bottling we allow the bottles to rest for 4-8 weeks."
